Lighting is the key to creating high quality cinematic material. Gilly Lawrence has been working in the Film Industry for over 30 years lighting works like MURU, BOY, and soon to be released BOOKWORM. Participants will explore key scenes from works Gilly has lit and he will analyze these scenes by discussing lights used, why they were selected and key factors to take into account to ensure the outcome meets the director’s vision. For the second part of the workshop you will explore lighting actors in the space for a variety of conditions and what to consider when doing so. A variety of basic lighting equipment will be there to practically use and learn how they work.
The technical aspects of shooting are key to ensuring you are able to practically shoot your work. James Cleary is a writer and director and has worked on films like STAR WARS, MOULIN ROUGE and the MATRIX. He is currently working on his first feature film RECOGNITION which will be shot in Hawke’s Bay later this year. This workshop will explore factors to consider before shooting in pre production. Depending on what camera and how best to plan for data storage. Together you will then explore shooting a scene and work out how best to capture the work for a high quality cinematic outcome. You will be working with actors in the space and observe how James works with them to get the performance that he wants to produce.
This is a rare opportunity to gather as a collective and explore two key areas of the screen industry.
