Elevate Project

The Elevate Project is an opportunity for artists to create a large scale mural (6mx2.4m) that will be showcased in various sites throughout our region. Selected artists will be mentored throughout the programme by experienced practitioners to bring their vision to life.

If you would like to apply please complete the Artists Application Form below. You will need to provide a brief about your work, why you wish to be involved, photos of your work or a website . The deadline for round 1 is 19 April so please share, make contact if required or support others to apply. A panel will then select 12 -15 people to go through to Round Two which will be an opportunity to design a piece and create a concept. From here the final pieces to be produced will be selected.

Currently we have funding to complete one project thanks to the Hastings City Council vibrancy funding. We are currently applying to local and national funding and aim to complete 5-6 projects in 2024.

The Elevate Project was born from the short film OPIA by Cosmo Calman which explored two disconnected youth who find a connection as they play cat and mouse painting on a large wall in an abandoned warehouse. So many partnerships were formed in the creation of this mural that we had to continue to support the future development of artists in our region. A huge thank you to Complete Paints for supplying paint and assocaited resources, BBI for supplying discounted plywood and framing, Unison for assisting with putting up the mural and of course the artists Glen Colechin and Rachael Stone for interpreting the brief and working with the art department to create such a beautiful piece that now hangs in Albert Square Hastings.

We have had huge support from Hastings City Council, Napier City Council, Central Hawke’s Bay City Council and Wairoa Council in identifying key sites where murals could be based and support letters for funding applications.
