Frisky at the ROXY Cinema
Frisky had a private viewing for Wellington audiences at the Roxy Cinema. What an amazing venue to view theatre. It feels lush and opulent and helps audience members be transported into the world of cinema.
A packed out theatre arrived to support Stevie Goodwin and team. Producer, Daniel Betty, from Dream Big was able to support by MCing the event and facilitating a question and answer session with key members of the team.
Stevie was excited to have Frisky shown in Wellington where they are based and share this with close friends and crew. The response was beautiful. The audience was engaged from start to finish and questions asked were poignant.
Stevie is a proud queer screen industry professional and wants to bring queer stories to life on the big screen. Frisky explored through the central character Alex (played by Alex Dallas) the challenges of returning home and connecting with parents and friends. This was paralleled by Mick (Tyler Clarke) a farmer struggling to accept his rural life that was thrust upon him. These characters come together to save the farm and Frisky the sheep from a terrible storm. A storm that brews in all of us.
Both actors portray the roles beautifully giving enough weight to the roles to show the mental struggles we face in the many hats we wear in daily life. An unlikely pair coming together in a time of need. Stevie worked hard to ensure that the actors understood their journey and drawing from lived experience was able to draw this out in their performance.
As Frisky is now out on the festival circuit we wait to see how global audiences will respond. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this great film. Watch the trailer below an leave us a comment or two about your experiences as a queer, transgender, non-binary in today’s society.
